 Become an APWA Non-Profit Partner

Our membership selects one non-profit organization each year to support through fundraising activity. To become an APWA Non-Profit Partner, the non-profit organization must be nominated by a current APWA member during the nomination period (early December, annually). Nominated non-profit organizations are then invited to submit an application and participate in our Non-Profit Partner selection process (detailed below).

Read below to learn more about eligibility criteria, our procedure for selection, and previous Non-Profit Partners. If you have questions, contact our Volunteer Services Chair.

Selection Guidelines & Procedure for
APWA's Non-Profit Partner
 Program

To be considered, a non-profit must:
  • Be nominated by a current APWA member.
  • Be a registered non-profit entity with 501(c)3 federal tax exempt status for a minimum of three (3) years.
  • Have a physical office in the Municipality of Anchorage.
  • Have articles of incorporation and by-laws filed with the State of Alaska or be a recognized local chapter of a national organization.
  • Have a nondiscrimination policy for personnel, clients and volunteers.
  • Have a full- time, Anchorage-based volunteer board of directors comprised of at least five (5) members.
  • Use funds to further the mission of the organization and/or benefit their constituents in Anchorage and the surrounding area. Note: Non-profits may not use money raised to fund capital projects.
    • Note: In past years, APWA has hosted a Non-Profit Partner Gala to raise funds for our Non-Profit Partner. However, APWA reserves the right to determine the scale and nature of any fundraising event(s) each year.
  • Not have received funding from APWF in the previous ten years. Independent divisions within an organization are considered unique and are eligible.

The process and timing are generally as follows:
  • Nominations are accepted (December).
  • Volunteer Services Chair invites nominees to complete applications (January-February).
  • APWA Board of Directors narrows the list of non-profits to two (April Board of Directors meeting).
  • Finalists present their non-profits’ mission and plan for any funds that APWA would raise for them in the coming year.
  • APWA members vote (April Monthly Gathering).
  • APWA announces the selected non-profit (May Monthly Gathering).
