APWA Members,
I am so honored to serve as your elected President! Thank you so much for your trust in me. We have had so many wonderful leaders in the past, I certainly have big shoes to fill, and I promise I will do my best. Although we are facing a lot of uncertainty in these times, our central mission to help our members Meet, Grow, Give remains the same. This year I hope to keep the wonderful traditions of this organization alive, and perhaps begin new ones. I am excited to tap into the amazing positive energy and talents that all the members of our organization bring as we join together to create fun and meaningful events and activities, and continue our community service efforts on behalf of this year’s non-profit partner Chugach Park Fund. In light of the COVID-19 situation, we have decided to convert the auction portion of our APWA fundraising event ‘Boots & Bling’ into a Virtual Auction. We have been planning this event since last fall and over forty local businesses from around Alaska have generously donated items which will be featured in the online Auction.
Challenge Alaska is our non-profit partner for fundraising this year, everyday they make a difference in the lives of people living with disabilities in our community. It’s why our sponsors and donors have already given so generously, and why we are committed to doing everything we can to support this great cause, even during these exceptional times. We recognize that all our supporters are facing their own challenges during this crisis, and we are extremely appreciative of everyone’s continued assistance. Alaska has a strong community spirit and we want to use the virtual auction to celebrate our local businesses. Over the coming days we will be showcasing those who have helped us to make this possible. These wonderful ladies volunteered at Challenge Alaska's 2020 Annual Gala Event! It was a fabulous evening and Challenge Alaska was able to raise $174,000!
A fantastic turnout today at Vīb / Cycle to raise money for our nonprofit partner Challenge Alaska
Thank you to everyone who came - we had fun & burned the cold away for this great cause!! It was fantastic to see both new and long term members this week at Kinley's Restaurant and Bar
for our Annual Christmas Luncheon. From the table centerpieces to the games, we enjoyed the Holiday spirit! We are excited to announce that APWA's affiliated nonprofit organization, the Anchorage Petroleum Women's Foundation, raised $36,927.45 for our 2018-2019 Nonprofit Partner,
Alaska Resource Education. The funds raised will support the Alaska Resource Education's efforts to develop an online curriculum about Alaska's mineral and energy industries. By placing the information online, the curriculum will be accessible to students living in the most remote corners of Alaska. A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone that donated to help APWA/APWF raise this amazing amount!! The 2018-2019 Special Projects Committee is pleased to announce that the theme of the Anchorage Petroleum Women's Foundation's February 9, 2019 Gala event, in support of Alaska Resource Education, will be "An Evening of Exploration." Guests are encouraged to dress in metallic fabrics and embrace the gold and black colors so prominent throughout Alaska's resource development industry. The Special Projects Committee, led by Special Projects Committee Chair Holly Lee and Deputy Chair Wanda Maxey, announced the theme at the October 17, 2018 Monthly Gathering Luncheon at Kinley's Restaurant.
Individual tickets for the event will be sold starting November 1 from our website's Non-Profit Partner Gala page. Corporate sponsorships are currently available, and the Gala Committee also is accepting donations for the annual silent and live auctions. Contact specialprojects@ancpwa.org to learn more about these opportunities. The Anchorage Petroleum Women's Association hosted its bi-annual Welcome Social at The Lakefront Anchorage on September 28th from 5:30-8:30PM. Over 60 APWA members, spouses, potential members, and community partners attended this event.
APWA Welcome Social events are held twice a year--in the fall and the spring--to provide the Anchorage community with more information about the organization and ways to get involved. Be on the lookout for our upcoming Spring Welcome Social, which will be held in March 2019. We are excited to announce that APWA's affiliated non-profit organization, the Anchorage Petroleum Women's Foundation, raised $40,869.62 for our 2017-2018 Non-Profit Partner, The Arc of Anchorage.
The funds raised will go to support The Arc of Anchorage's Inclusion Scholarship, a new scholarship fund created by The Arc. The scholarship fund will allow eligible clients at The Arc to receive funding to participate in The Arc's many services. Visit The Arc of Anchorage's website to learn more about this local organization. We would like to extend our deepest thanks to our members and community partners who helped us raise the funds. APWA annually selects a local non-profit organization as its Non-Profit Partner. APWA members volunteer for this organization and raise funds for the organization throughout the year. Visit our Become a Non-Profit Partner page to learn more about our annual Non-Profit Partner program. On Tuesday, February 13th, 2018, APWA was proud to be awarded the ‘Together We Can’ Award as part of the Arc’s Shining Stars, Big Hearts ceremony. The Arc of Anchorage hosts the annual ceremony to recognize partners and volunteers who make a difference in their organization and the community.
