Guidelines for Selection of Annual Non-Profit Partner
Each year, we invite APWA members to submit names of non-profit organizations to be considered as our partner for the coming year. Starting in June each year, APWA focuses efforts to the non-profit in two ways: I. Volunteerism
Active service with activities, events, daily duties, and more.
Monthly fundraising efforts
Net proceeds from annual fundraising event held in February
To be considered, a non-profit must:
Be nominated by a current APWA member.
Be a registered non-profit entity with 501(c)3 federal tax exempt status for a minimum of three (3) years and a physical office in the Municipality of Anchorage;
Have articles of incorporation and by-laws filed with the State of Alaska or be a recognized local chapter of a national organization;
Have a nondiscrimination policy for personnel, clients and volunteers
Have a full- time, Anchorage-based volunteer board of directors comprised of at least five (5) members
Use funds to further the mission of the organization and/or benefit their constituents in Anchorage and the surrounding area. Note: Non-profits may not use money raised to fund capital projects.
Not have received funding from APWF in the previous ten years. Independent divisions within an organization are considered unique and are eligible.
Have volunteer opportunities for APWC members
The process and timing are as follows:
Nominations are accepted (December 1-15).
Volunteer Services Chair invites nominees to complete applications (January-February).
AWPA Board of Directors narrows the list of non-profits to two (April Board of Directors meeting).
Finalists present their non-profits’ mission, volunteer opportunities, and plan for any funds that APWA would raise for them in the coming year.
APWA members vote. (April luncheon)
APWA announces the selected non-profit. (May luncheon)
To nominate a non-profit, fill out the Nomination Form and return by email to firstname.lastname@example.org in person at the December luncheon. A member may nominate more than one non-profit; however, one form is required for each non-profit.

*Note that organizations are ineligible for nomination in the current year if they have received funding from APWF in the previous ten years.
