Founded in 1982, Alaska Resource Education (ARE) is committed to educating students about Alaska's natural resources. We are proud to announce that our membership selected Alaska Resource Education as our 2018-2019 Non-Profit Partner. Visit our Become a Non-Profit Partner page to learn more about our Non-Profit Partner program.
From June 2018-May 2019, APWA members will work to support ARE through volunteerism and fundraising activities. Funds raised will go to support ARE's current effort to develop an online curriculum for 9-12 students. This curriculum will take students on a journey through the history, process, geography, economics, and careers associated with Alaska's mineral and energy industries. By placing the information online, the curriculum will be accessible to students living in even the most remote corners of Alaska.
ARE's needs are quite practical and tangible. APWA funds will help ARE's effort by supporting needs like the following:
The Teacher Working Group's (a group of teacher advisors working to develop the program) effort to build the storyboards for the online curriculum.
The partnership with industry groups to develop and review the curriculum.
The gathering of pictures, interviews, data, and historic content for the curriculum.
