We are thrilled to have selected The Arc of Anchorage as our chosen charity for 2017-2018.
“The Arc of Anchorage provides services to Alaskans who experience intellectual disabilities, developmental disabilities and behavioral health illnesses. Since 1957, The Arc has established itself in Alaska as a leading provider of programs and services to benefit these individuals and their families and create opportunities of inclusion in our community. Today The Arc serves over 350 individuals and their families, providing a wide range of services that covers their needs from birth to end of life. From housing, health care, employment and job training, life skills development, transportation, recreation, education, advocacy and more, The Arc of Anchorage meets the unique needs of every person enrolled for services.” To learn more about their programs and services, visit: https://thearcofanchorage.org/our-services/
Our Mission: To encourage and celebrate the potential of people who experience disabilities. http://www.thearcofanchorage.org Our Vision: To be a community that recognizes and embraces people of all abilities.
The funds APWA raises through the coming year, during monthly events and our annual gala in February, will go exclusively towards The Arc of Anchorage Inclusion Scholarship Program.
“ (The) Inclusion Scholarship will provide $5,000 in course or special event scholarships available to individuals enrolled for services at The Arc who would like to take a life skills or job skills class, a recreation course at The Arc of Anchorage, or to attend a special event through The Arc in partnership with a community-sponsored activity. Many of our individuals have little to no income, so their participation would provide them with invaluable opportunities, with lasting impact in a wide variety of classes and special events. It also encourages our individuals who experience disabilities to be out in the community and for The Arc to bring people of all abilities together, one of our key initiatives for The Arc’s 60th Anniversary in 2017 as we work toward a more inclusive future for Alaska.”
The Arc will be able to offer its scholarship programs to individuals free of charge, with any funds APWA raises. What an incredible opportunity for our members to impact individuals’ involvement and inclusion by helping provide access to these fantastic opportunities and services offered by The Arc to the community they serve.
